Midlands shoppers can donate to Harvest Hope today

March 8, 2013

— Harvest Hope Food Bank will hold its 5th Annual Food From the Heart food drive from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Volunteers from Northside Baptist Church and Shandon Baptist Church will be at 45 Midlands food stores, handing out red shopping bags for shoppers to fill along with lists of items needed.

One in five South Carolinians is experiencing food hardship, meaning they are not able to get through the month with enough food to eat, said Harvest Hope chief executive officer Denise Holland.

Those wanting to participate can donate goods while shopping at area Bi-Lo, Food Lion, Walmart, Piggly Wiggly, Kroger, IGA, Sam’s Club and Save-A-Lot grocery stores.

The drive is one of the most important drives of the year, Holland said, since it will focus on non-perishable food items and other goods such as diapers, baby food, baby formula and personal hygiene products.
