The Pelion Panthers baseball team expects better things in 2013.
Veteran coach Barry Fogle, who sports a 380-255 record in 26 season as the Panthers head coach, welcomes six starters back from a 12-10 team that failed to make the state-playoff cut. The experienced lineup bodes well for the Panthers, as does the move to the far-less competitive Region 3-2A.
Seniors Russ Allen and Josh Lang (.279), juniors Zach Hawkins (.375, 14 R, 13 RBI), Tyler Poole (.279, 11 RBI) and Dominick Holderness and sophomore Daniel Hawkins (.310, 7 RBI) are the returning starters.
Poole was 3-1 with 32 strikeouts in 25 innings on the hill. Holderness was 2-1 with a 0.43 ERA and Zach Hawkins was 1-1 with two saves. Newcomers
Newcomers to watch include junior Tripp Hansen, sophomore Andrew Kneece and eighth-graders Austin Fogle and Mark Kneece.
