— A Columbia man has been identified as the victim of a single-vehicle wreck Monday on I-26 near Chapin.

Robert B. Frantz Jr., 51, died from trauma, an autopsy by Richland County coroner Gary Watts showed.

Frantz was traveling east on I-26 at 10:50 a.m. when he ran off the road and hit a tree, said Lance Cpl. Brent Kelly of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

He was wearing a seat belt as he was driving a 2007 Ford Edge.

The car caught fire, and witnesses were able to remove the man. But he died at the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
