The Carolina Forest softball team moved into the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 national high-school softball rankings, released Tuesday.
The Panthers, which entered the day at 7-0, were No. 25 in the poll after opening the season unranked. Carolina Forest started Region VI-AAAA play Tuesday night at home against West Florence.
First-year coach Meagan Johnson’s team was also ranked No. 3 in the South Carolina Class AAAA state coaches poll, released earlier this week. The Panthers finished the 2012 season as the state runners-up to Hillcrest, falling in the championship round.
