COLUMBIA, SC — Richland County deputies have taken several people into custody after shots were fired at a Broad River Road nightclub early Wednesday morning.
Officers patrolling the area near Club Phenom at 2700 block of Broad River Road about 3:30 a.m., said Chris Cowan, a Richland County Sheriffs Department spokesman.
After the shots were fired, deputies stopped one car they saw leaving the clubs parking lot and found a pistol stolen from Columbia inside. Several people inside the car were taken into custody.
A second vehicle was also stopped and deputies found another gun stolen from Alabama, Cowan said. The people travelling in that car were also detained, he said.
Investigators think the shooting was the result of a fight inside the nightclub, also known as Club XO, that spilled outside. There, shots were fired and several vehicles were struck. No one was injured.
Charges for possession of the stolen weapons have been filed, along with ones in connection to the shooting and for drug possession, Cowan said. Drugs were found in one of the cars.
Investigators are still interviewing suspects and witnesses, but Cowan said officers think that they have the suspects involved in the shooting along with the weapons used.
Charges havent yet been determined, he said.
