LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC Lexington County authorities arrested David Lougene Wiilliams,18, after the Aiken man was detained by a neighbor of a home burgled on Cheryse Drive off I-20 near Lexington on Thursday.
Williams was found in possession of a gunsafe and other items taken from the home, Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said.
Sometime between noon and 1 p.m. Thursday, the Charyse Drive home was broken into. A gunsafe containing two 12-gauge shotguns, several handguns and other items that was hidden in a bedroom closet was stolen.
A neighbor saw Williams trespassing on his property located on Chalks Ferry Road, which runs behind Charyse Drive. He detained Williams and called the authorities. Deputies found the safe, a handcart used to move it, and tools in the nearby woods. There was evidence, Metts said, that an attempt was made to break into the safe.
Williams is charged with burglary, grand larceny and safecracking. He was being held at the Lexington County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing on Friday.
