Columbia, SC — For two years now, S.C. Treasurer Curtis Loftis has been sounding the alarm on the state’s underperforming $26 billion retirement fund, and tirelessly devoting himself to protecting it. His efforts have uncovered myriad problems related to the management of the fund.
However, rather than working with him to fix the problems, the other members of the Retirement System Investment Commission have chosen to hide behind a veil of bureaucracy and throw up roadblocks, such as the ridiculous censure of the treasurer for daring to question them. I am sorry, gentlemen, but sometimes the truth hurts.
