COLUMBIA, SC — A power pole support cable lying in the road on Bull Street Tuesday set off a chain of events that sent a woman to the hospital with minor injuries, a Columbia Police Department spokeswoman said.
A power pole at Colonial Drive and Bull Street fell on the windshield of a woman’s car about 9 a.m. after a truck driver unwittingly dragged the cable down Colonial Drive, said Jennifer Timmons, the police department spokeswoman.
The woman in the car didn’t appear to be seriously injured and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The cable broke loosed during Monday night’s thunderstorms, Timmons said.
Traffic heading on Bull Street toward S.C. 277 was slowed for part of the morning while crews from the city and SCE&G cleaned up the scene, but the road has reopened.
