Blythewood seized early control of the Region 4-4A baseball pennant race with a surprising 11-0 win at Spring Valley on Tuesday.
The Bengals (7-3 overall) have three shutout wins in as many tries in conference matters, two by Andrew Beckwith. The senior right-hander blanked the Vikings on four hits after tossing a no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Irmo in the region opener last week. Beckwith has allowed no runs and four hits with 15 strikeouts and no walks in 13 innings of work in conference games to date.
The hitting star has been sophomore Tyler Ramanik, who went 4-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs against Spring Valley. It was Romaniks second 4-for-4 game in region play. He is 9-for-11 (.818) in the three conference games to date with four runs and five RBI.
Beckwith also had two hits in the game. Beckwith and junior Aaron Dahm are both hitting .400 (4-for-10) in region games to date. Dahm closed out the rout of Spring Valley with a three run homer in the top of the seventh inning.
Spring Valley (8-3, 2-1) saw its five-game winning streak come to an abrupt end.
