Batesburg-Leesville man charged in home break-in

— A 21-year-old Batesburg-Leesville man faces charges in connection with a Summit home break-in.

Joseph Ryan Morin Sevrie, of West Columbia Avenue, was arrested Wednesday on charges of first-degree burglary, possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, simple possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine and unlawfully carrying a firearm, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department announced.

Sevrie is accused of entering a home Tuesday on Reedy O. Smith Road through an unlocked window and taking items including a handgun, a notebook computer, a digital camera and jewelry, Sheriff James R. Metts said.

At about 12:07 a.m. Wednesday, a deputy saw the suspect staggering around a roadway near a moped on the sisde of the road at Two Notch Road and South Lake Drive, near Lexington, according to reports. He was detained and later arrested, and Metts said he was found to be in possession of some of the items taken from the home.

Sevrie was being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.
