Columbia, SC — And article in the March 8 State quotes Senator Lindsey Graham as saying that leading Republicans didn’t complain that President Bush was going to kill some using drones, but that they all of a sudden have that concern about President Obama (“Graham, McCain rip Paul for filibuster”).
Let us apply Graham’s observation to the deficit: Republicans had no qualms when President Bush pushed tax cuts that led to the end of a surplus. Then came the unpaid-for wars.
When President Obama came in, Republicans decided that the deficit was an abomination. Never mind the deficit is getting smaller, thanks in part to undoing President Bush’s budget-busting tax cuts and wars.
Sen. Graham had better speak more carefully. He might blow the GOP’s secret: It’s OK if Republicans do it.
