Eddie O’Cain, animal cruelty investigator with the Humane Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, has been named the South Carolina Horse Council’s 2013 Horseperson of the Year. O’Cain joined the Humane Society of the Midlands in 2009, which made him the only full-time investigator in South Carolina employed by a nonprofit animal welfare organization. His dedication to animal welfare and horses helped the South Carolina Horse Council establish its Welfare Committee. In addition, O’Cain rehabilitates ill-treated horses at his home.
