Columbia - The StateMarch 21, 2013

UPDATED: The Good Clean Fun cleanup event Saturday in Forest Acres has been canceled because of inclement weather.

The Let's Move -- Kids Day Columbia scheduled for Saturday at Finlay Park has been canceled because of the weather.

The freeze forecast proved extremely accurate Thursday — with 32 or below temperatures briefly reaching down to Saluda, Newberry and Fairfield counties.

A freeze warning is in effect for Friday morning for much of the Midlands and Lowcountry, with temperatures expected around 30 degrees.

The National Weather Service reported Thursday morning lows of 30 in Greenville-Spartanburg, 32 in Greenwood and 30 in notoriously cool Cedar Creek, in Richland County just south of the Fairfield County line.

The low at Columbia Metropolitan Airport was 33, while Hamilton-Owens Airport in downtown Columbia hit 39. The duration of freezing temperatures was short, which means minimal damage to vegetation.
