Published: March 22, 2013

— The deputy chief of the Columbia Police Department graduated this week from the FBI National Academy in Virginia.

Deputy Chief Ruben Santiago underwent 10 weeks of advanced investigative, management and fitness training at the federal agency’s Quantico, Va. headquarters, according to a Columbia Police Department release. Officers are selected for the academy based on his record with their respective law enforcement agencies.

Fewer than one-tenth of one percent of law enforcement officers are selected for the academy, the release states. Santiago said in the release that he was happy for the opportunity.
