Columbia residents asked to dim lights tonight

March 23, 2013

Columbia city offices will be a little darker for an hour tonight.

And city officials are challenging residents to participate, too, in a one-hour dimming at 8:30 p.m. of nonessential lights.

The step is part of an international effort to save energy by turning off lights and unplugging appliances.

Since the event is happening on a Saturday, many city offices are closed to the public, so many lights already will be off except for those in public safety.
