The fashion at Carolina Cup will be bright, bright, bright.

It doesn’t matter what the color is — royal blue, yellow, hot fuchsia — as long as it is pops. That goes for pants, ties, bow ties and even dresses. And shoes and hats, if you’re sartorially daring.

“This is nothing but Disney World gone crazy,” Perry Lancaster, owner of Brittons, said about the inside of the Devine Street clothing store.

Some of the hues require a lamp shade. Apparently, khaki pants are to be left crumpled on the floor.

“It’s just the South,” Lancaster said. “It’s all about color.”

Another hot item in the store are Chubbies, the thigh-bearing shorts favored by the topsider set. It might even be warm enough to wear them this weekend.

AnnaBelle LaRoque, the owner of the eponymous label and store, said the strapless dress remains popular with clients. The custom dresses can include accessories to be worn by a gentleman.

“Monogram bow ties to match the dress are often ordered,” LaRoque, whose store is also on Devine Street, said.

Granger Owings is showing a lot of poppy colors, like pants in pink and green that are made with a cotton and linen blend. Cotton blazers have also been popular at The Main Street store. The unlined and unstructured blazers are is suitable for cool and slightly warm temperatures.

They can also be worn with slacks or jeans.

“It can easily fit into the wardrobe,” D.R. Granger, the store's wardrobe consultant, said.
