Columbia, SC — On my drive home recently on one of our main thoroughfares, attendants were putting someone in an ambulance. On the median lay a damaged moped and a helmet. The police were talking to someone leaning against a nearby car.
I cannot understand why mopeds are allowed out of residential areas. When my youngest was in her teens, her Daddy bought her a moped against my wishes. After checking with authorities, I found out they were limited to neighborhood territories. Back then, parents put limits on where they could go.
Whatever happened to those rules that certainly protected not only the young, but older people as well? Talk to doctors who work in a hospital emergency room, and they will tell you about the astounding number of people brought there from accidents on mopeds, some of which are fatal.
