6 seek Richland 1 post

April 1, 2013

— Six candidates are seeking to fill a vacancy on the Richland 1 school board.

The contest took shape Monday after filing for the post ended.

Doretha Bull and Raymond Cook joined four others on the ballot who announced earlier – Pamela Adams, Deborah Belton, Reggie Sims and Karen Wilson.

Cook, 49, is a mathematics teacher at Lower Richland High who lives in a neighborhood near Williams-Brice stadium.

He is the third teacher in the contest, with Adams and Sims the others.

Bull. 64, is a retired social worker who lives in the Five Points area. She works part-time in retail.

The nonpartisan election takes place June 4, with the winner succeeding the late Barbara Scott for a term that runs through 2016.

Meanwhile, it’s been determined that Richland 1 will pay the estimated $140,000 tab for the ballot, deputy county elections director Garry Baum said.
