COLUMBIA, SC — U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, will be the keynote speaker during Dem Weekend 2013 in Columbia on May 4, the state party announced Thursday.
RT Rybak, the mayor of Minneapolis and vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee, will also speak.
Congressman Joaquin Castro has been a strong, common sense leader in his home-state and nationwide on creating jobs, building infrastructure, and supporting education in order to create a more prosperous future, S.C. Democratic Party First Vice Chair Jaime Harrison said in a news release.
Castro and Rybak will also join South Carolina Democrats on May 3 when Vice President Joe Biden will speak during the annual Jefferson Jackson Dinner. On the same day, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, will speak to the Republican Silver Elephant Celebration.
Castro is the twin brother of Julian Castro, the mayor of San Antonio who delivered the keynote address for the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.
