Falcons play for FAC championship tonight

April 5, 2013

A.C. Flora squares off against Westminster Academy of Fort Lauderdale in the Forest Acres Classic championship game Friday at 8 p.m.

White Knoll, which has split two FAC outings, closes out the tournament at 2 p.m. today against West Carteret, NC.

The defending Class 3A state champion and tournament host Flora Falcons (11-4) advanced to the title game thanks to a wild, seventh-inning rally that led to a 7-6 win over Sumter on Wednesday.

Flora trailed the Gamecocks 6-4 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, but put together a decisive, three-run with the aid of just one hit – a bunt safety. Sam Anderson and Jake Lewis drew leadoff walks to get things rolling. Everett Eynon’s bunt up the third base line resulted in a hit and a bases-loaded chance for the Falcons.

Pinch runner Mills Carlton, in for Anderson, scored on a ground out off the bat of Madison Stokes. Donald Gillespie followed with another ground out that plated Lewis to tie the score at 6-6 and moved Eynon on to third base.

The winning run came when Conner Desmond swung and missed at a third strike that eluded the Sumter catcher, allowing Eynon to dash home with the clincher.
