HELENE BERR EXHIBITION: The Richland Library, 1431 Assembly St., hosts “Helene Berr, A Stolen Life” Monday-May 10. Berr, a student of English at the Sorbonne when the Nazis invaded France, she died days before her camp was liberated. Her story is captured in the journal she kept. (803) 799-9084

2013 S.C. READ-IN: The annual event, sponsored by the S.C. Association of School Librarians and the S.C. State Library, celebrates children and reading. Students will gather at the State Library, the corner of Bull and Senate streets, and parade to the State House Thursday. (803) 960-4999; read-in-sc.org

SOUTH CAROLINA BOOK FESTIVAL: Registration for participants in the festival is due April 15. The festivall will be May 17-19 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center and will feature publishers, booksellers and literary and community organizations. www.scbookfestivalorg
