Columbia, SC — In my 40 years as an educator, I have seen many attempts to “fix” the S.C. High School League. The league ruled against my school several years ago. I was unhappy with the decision but understood that there are controversial calls in all athletic competitions.
To promote fairness, the league’s executive committee is composed of members elected by the different educational associations, who update the rules annually. One thing the league does not do is integrate politics into the decision-making.
Think about what is going on and not going on in our state government. Why on earth would we want to incorporate that kind of ineffectiveness into our athletic programs? I know very few coaches I do not trust and very few politicians I do.
