Wreck, downed lines tangle Northeast Richland commuters

— An early morning wreck on Clemson Road complicated rush hour Tuesday morning because it knocked power lines down and forced the closure of a major intersection for about six hours.

South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers set up a detour around the Clemson-Rhame road crossing after the 2:25 a.m. wreck, but traffic backed up severely as commuter traffic picked up, Lance Cpl. Brent Kelly said.

Details of the wreck were not immediately available, but Kelly said it consisted of a single vehicle that struck a power pole.

The power lines were fixed and the intersection reopened around 8:30 a.m., he said.
