UPDATE: Columbia man dies when his motorcycle strikes truck

Columbia - The StateApril 14, 2013

A 32-year-old Columbia man died early Sunday morning when his motorcycle struck another vehicle, officials said.

Kevin O. Wright, of 326 Sugar Mill Road in Columbia, was riding a motorcycle without a helmet when the crash occurred, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Sunday.

Wright had been traveling “at a very high rate of speed” just before his motorcycle struck another vehicle, Watts quoted a Richland County Sheriff’s deputy as saying. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The wreck happened around 3 a.m. on Longtown Road in upper Richland County.

The vehicle that Wright struck then left the scene and is being sought by the S.C. Highway Patrol. It is believed to be a large truck, Watts said.

A Sunday autopsy showed that Wright died as a result of trauma suffered in the crash. The Highway Patrol is investigating.
