Prep Talk | Myrtle Beach boys soccer makes it four straight weeks at No. 1

April 15, 2013

The Myrtle Beach boys soccer team is about to enter another huge stretch of games. And the Seahawks will enter a three-game week with the No. 1 ranking.

Coach Jason Himmeslbach's team held on to the No. 1 ranking in Class AAA for the fourth straight week. The team has lost just one game in that span - a 2-1 defeat to nationally ranked Farragut (Tenn.) in the Nike Palmetto Cup.

The updated state rankings come just a few days after Myrtle Beach improved six spots in the Elite Soccer Report national rankings. There, the Seahawks are now No. 34 in the country.

This week, Myrtle Beach (11-2) will play Georgetown (Tuesday), St. James (Wednesday) and Wilson (Thursday). Three wins in those games could all but secure a top-two seed for the state playoffs, which begin at the begging of May.

That's not a definite, though. Socastee (No. 4 in Class AAA) and St. James (No. 10) are also ranked this week. The Braves will play North Myrtle Beach (Tuesday), Waccamaw (Thursday) and Georgetown (Friday) this week before a much-anticipated re-match with Myrtle Beach April 23.

Waccamaw is the only other boys program ranked this week. The Warriors come in at No. 4 in Class AA.

The Myrtle Beach girls team moved up to No. 10 in Class AAA, and the Waccamaw girls is now No. 3 in Class AA.
