Fire at Harbison-area restaurant causes more than $300,000 in damages

April 24, 2013

— An early morning fire at a Harbison-area restaurant has caused more than $300,000 in damages, officials say.

Firefighters with the Columbia Fire Department and the Irmo Fire District responded to a fire at McAlister’s Deli on Columbiana Drive around 5 a.m. Wednesday, department spokesman Brick Lewis said.

Fire and smoke could be seen from the roof of the deli as units arrived on the scene.

Damages are estimated at $350,000, he said. No one was injured in the incident.

Investigators determined the fire was caused by an electrical short from a commercial appliance, Lewis said.
