COLUMBIA, SC — Many Midlands buses soon will be on the roads longer, and Saturday service will return on some routes under a plan agreed to Wednesday by transit authorities.
The Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority approved a package of additional routes and times for bus services during its monthly board meeting.
Many of the additions are midday and Saturday service hours that were cut in 2012.
The changes will include 525 hours of services added to bus routes in anticipation of funding from the penny sales tax, officials with the authority said.
The additions have been on hold pending a challenge to voters November approval of the penny tax. the challenge has been denied by the S.C. Supreme Court.
The extended hours will begin May 13.
Further additions to service levels, board members said Wednesday, are expected once funding from the sales tax is received.
