Socastee soccer No. 2 in state rankings after big week

April 29, 2013

The Socastee boys soccer team made a nice jump in the state coaches poll following its lopsided victory over then-No. 1 Myrtle Beach.

The Braves moved up to No. 2 in Class AAA while Myrtle Beach dropped to No. 4. The two teams, as well as fellow region squad St. James (No. 12 in this week's poll) are still jostling for positioning for the playoffs, which begin next week.

Each of those three teams have two Region VII-AAA games remaining. That includes the Sharks' game at Socastee on Wednesday.

Several others from around the area appeared in this week's poll.

The St. James girls team moved into the rankings for the first time this season. The Sharks (7-5) are No. 15 in Class AAA. The Waccamaw boys squad is still No. 4 in Class AA, while the Warriors' girls are currently No. 5 in Class AA/A.
