Friday letters: Homeless hide bags about town

May 3, 2013

— Well, of course the “suspicious packages” recently found in downtown Columbia were the belongings of Columbia’s homeless. As soon as the first one was mentioned in the news, I knew that would turn out to be the case.

Unfortunately all Oliver Gospel Mission residents must carry their meager belongings out with them early each morning. They can’t leave anything behind. While many do choose to carry them in backpacks, etc., others have been in the habit of hiding theirs around town to be picked up when check-in time rolls around back at the mission.
