AUTHOR SIGNING: Aida Rogers, Claire DeLune and Sam Morton will sign copies of their new book “State of the Heart” from noon-2 p.m. Thursday at UpTown Gifts, 1204 Main St. “State of the Heart” is a compilation of love letters to the state of South Carolina penned by a host of nationally and regionally known writers. SOUTH CAROLINA BOOK FESTIVAL: The festival, featuring publishers, booksellers and literary and community organizations, will be May 17-19 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. www.scbookfestivalorg

SPEAKER AT THE CENTER SERIES: Hosted by the S.C. State Library’s Center for the Book, USC Press and Hub City Press, the series takes place during lunch and features a variety of authors. Discussions are from noon-1 p.m. at the S.C. State Library, 1500 Senate St. The final two discussions feature Aida Rogers, Cindi Boiter, Ceille Baird Welch and Billy Deal, May 16; and Tom Polland and Phil Sawyer, June 20. Call (803) 734-8666
