Missing Kershaw teen located in Texas

Columbia - The StateMay 5, 2013

A Kershaw County 15-year-old girl who vanished from her home late Friday night turned up Sunday afternoon in Texas.

"We are relieved she has been found in good condition and safe," Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said.

Matthews said arrangements are being made to bring the girl back to South Carolina.

Although evidence at her Lugoff home pointed to the girl's leaving home voluntarily, Matthews also put out a national alert to all law enforcement agencies. It was that alert that apparently led to someone in Texas noticing the girl and telling local police there, he said. She was found in Bexar County near San Antonio, which is in south central Texas.

"The girl apparently got to Texas riding in a car with two boys who didn't know who she was. They thought she was a boy," Matthews said.

However, details on exactly what happened are sketchy and Matthews said his investigators will interview the girl when she's back.
