— Single-vehicle wrecks involving trees took the life of a 58-year-old Columbia woman Sunday afternoon and a 24-year-old Bowman man earlier in the day in Orangeburg County.

The woman, whose identity has not been released by the Richland County Coroner's Office, was killed when her Toyota car left the roadway and struck a tree, SC Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said.

Collins said the woman was driving east on Garners Ferry Road around 12:35 p.m. when the wreck occurred near SC 601. The woman was wearing a seat belt, but did not survive her injuries.

A similar wreck killed a 24-year-old Bowman man in Orangeburg County in the early morning hours.

The man was driving a Honda west on US 178 around 3:29 a.m. when the car left the road and struck a tree, Collins said.

The driver, whose identity was not available from the Orangeburg County Coroner's Office, also was wearing a seat belt.

There were no passengers in either wreck, Collins said.
