The national media has descended on Charleston and the Lowcountry, looking for political fodder in Tuesday's special election for the SC 1st District congressional seat, vacated earlier this year when Tim Scott was appointed to a U.S. Senate seat.

Former SC Gov. Mark Sanford is waging a pitched battle against Elizabeth Colbert Busch, a businesswoman who works for Clemson, and older sister of comedian Stephen Colbert.
