A new winner in a Lake City arts competition has been chosen.
Officials from Artfields, an arts festival held last month, announced Wednesday that Columbia artist Kirkland Smith has been named the winner of the Peoples Choice Award for her assemblage portrait of Apple founder Steve Jobs. She will receive a $25,000 prize.
The initial winner in the April exhibition, Warsaw Ghetto 1943, by John Cooper of Rutherfordton, N.C., was disqualified last week because it was based on a photograph, rather than a wholly original piece. The winner was chosen by Artfields visitors.
Smiths artwork will be on view at Gallery 80808 beginning May 24 as one of the prize-winning pieces from the inaugural 10-day artist competition and festival held in Lake City.
