Crownover keeps Eagles in check

— Freshman left-hander Matthew Crownover tossed seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball to lead No. 19 Clemson to a 7-0 victory over Georgia Southern at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Saturday night.

The Tigers (36-15) took a 2-0 lead in the series over the Eagles (25-25).

Clemson scored single runs in the first three innings, then the Tigers put the game away with four runs in the seventh.

Crownover (7-1) set career highs for innings pitched and strikeouts (eight) while allowing three singles and three walks.

Steven Duggar paced Clemson’s 12-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with a run.

Clemson’s five graduating seniors will be honored during a ceremony before Sunday’s 1 p.m. series finale.
