Columbia, SC — Please stop calling the Palmetto Compress warehouse iconic. Many cities do have architectural icons. St. Louis has an arch; London, Paris and Pisa have towers; San Francisco has a bridge, etc.
Columbia might claim Williams-Brice Stadium as a signature structure, but not the ugly dilapidated brick box. Furthermore, any building past its ribbon-cutting has some history. So no one needs it called “historic.” It used to be a cotton warehouse.
If you must apply a flashy adjective, try “eyesore,” “dilapidated,” “anachronistic” or “money pit.”
