Lexington, Blythewood still alive

May 13, 2013

Lexington hosts No. 1 Wando Monday in the Class 4A Upper State girls soccer championship match, while Blythewood travels to Greenville to face J.L. Mann for the Upper State title.

Lexington (19-4) has yet to yield a goal in three playoff matches. The Wildcats opened the postseason with a 12-0 rout of Ridge View, defeated West Ashley 2-0 in the second round and downed Beaufort by the same score in the quarterfinals.

The Wildcats are the only team to defeat the top-ranked Warriors (18-1-1) this season, scoring a 2-1 win at the Taco Bell Vikings Cup tournament at Spring Valley on March 2.

This will be the fourth postseason meeting of the teams since Lexington moved to the Lower State in 2009. Wando dealt the Wildcats a 1-0 loss in the 2011 LS title match.

No. 3 Blythewood (20-3) entered new territory with a 3-2 third-round win at home over defending state champion T.L. Hanna. It’s the first time Blythewood has ever survived to compete in the second week of the playoffs.

The third-ranked Bengals take on No. 2 J.L. Mann (23-1) with a first-ever state title shot hanging in the balance for both teams.
