Don’t be alarmed by the helicopters, National Guard says

From staff reportsMay 16, 2013

Don’t be alarmed if you see a lot of military vehicles and aircraft from the Lowcountry to the Midlands in the coming days.

The SC National Guard began a major training exercise Thursday that will run though next Thursday.

Residents should expect to see an increase in military vehicle traffic and, yes, rotary aircraft overhead, and should not be alarmed, according to a spokesman for the Guard.

The primary areas expected to see an increase in military activity are Allendale, Barnwell, Jasper, Bamberg, Beaufort, Hampton and Richland counties.

The exercise, called Ardent Sentry, focuses on hurricane response.
