RICHLAND COUNTY, SC — Starting Saturday, Midlands buses will run later on Saturday evenings and service is being restored on six routes where it was cut a year ago.
The Saturday improvements are being made across the system now billed as THE COMET instead of the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority.
Larry Livingston, assistant general manager for the bus company, said Saturday hours are being restored where for the past year there have been none on routes from Eau Claire and the Richland Memorial Hospital area, to Rosewood and Bluff Road.
And buses will run more frequently on well-used routes in St. Andrews and Forest Drive.
Everybodys excited theyre excited to get service back again, he said.
On Saturdays, the last bus will leave downtown at 7 p.m. instead of 5 p.m., Livingston said. Further, a new route began Monday along Bush River Road.
The improvements are being made as residents begin to pay an extra penny sales-tax for transportation in Richland County.
