Wednesday letters: Media protecting President Obama

May 22, 2013

As we watch the cascade of scandals unfolding in Washington, it is amazing to see much of the media try to protect President Obama by portraying him as this aloof, detached, big-idea guy who is not responsible for anything.

The media held Presidents Nixon, Reagan and George W. Bush responsible for everything that happened during their terms, no matter how far down the chain of command. Abu Ghraib is a perfect example of this. George W. Bush gets blamed for things that happened after his term ended. Our supposedly open democratic style of government is not well served by media that do not hold everybody to the same standards and the same levels of scrutiny.
