DURHAM, N.C. — Chad Pinder drove in the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh to help Virginia Tech beat Georgia Tech 3-2 on Friday in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament, clinching an appearance in Sunday’s final.
Pinder also had a solo home run in the fourth for the sixth-seeded Hokies (38-19), who went 3-0 in Pool B to clinch a reach the title game.
Alex Perez also drove in a run for the Hokies, while starter Devin Burke (10-3) allowed two runs — one earned — and seven hits in 72/3 innings. Clark Labitan earned his 10th save.
Sam Dove and Matt Gonzalez each had two hits for the Yellow Jackets (34-25), while Jonathan King (6-5) allowed nine hits in 61/3 innings.
Georgia Tech finished 1-2 in Pool B.
N.C. STATE 7, MIAMI 1
Trea Turner and Bryan Adametz each drove in two runs to help N.C. State.
Turner had a two-run single in a four-run second inning for the fourth-seeded Wolfpack (44-13), who improved to 2-0 in Pool A in Durham. N.C. State beat Clemson 6-3 on Thursday and can reach Sunday’s championship game by beating top-seeded North Carolina on Saturday.
VANDERBILT 3, TEXAS A&M 0
At Hoover, Ala., Tyler Beede allowed two hits in 71/3 innings, and Vanderbilt advanced to the semifinals of the SEC tournament.
The Commodores (50-8), who lost their tournament opener to the Aggies 5-0, will face Mississippi State on Saturday.
Beede (14-0) struck out eight and walked four for Vandy, which outhit Texas A&M (32-27) by a total of 14-2. Brian Miller recorded the final five outs without allowing a hit for save No. 15.
LSU 3, ALABAMA 2
Tyler Moore and Ty Ross had run-scoring hits with two outs in the ninth to lead LSU. The Tigers (50-9) face Arkansas in the semifinals.
LSU’s Chris Cotton then needed 11 pitches to strike out three batters in the bottom of the ninth for his 14th save. Nate Fury (2-1) pitched a scoreless eighth in relief of Ryan Eades for the win.
Alabama’s Oczypok (4-2) allowed 10 hits in 82/3 innings.
MISSISSIPPI STATE 6, TEXAS A&M 4
Adam Frazier went 4 for 5 with an RBI to pace Mississippi State.
