CAROLINA RIVER CONNECTION: Basic canoe, sea/rec and whitewater kayak instruction and rentals. Five guided trips for all levels of paddlers, including half day, full day and overnight trips. Meals are provided, and ages 8 and under paddle for free. Paddle the Saluda, Congaree, Edisto and Enoree Rivers. (803) 917-3920

CONGAREE NATIONAL PARK: Park staff host two free butterfly programs: Butterfly Identification Training, June 8 from 9-11:30 a.m.; and the annual NABA Butterfly Count, June 15 from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Advance registration is required. Bring sunscreen, bug spray, water and a bag lunch. Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Harry Hampton Visitor Center park hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. DREHER ISLAND STATE PARK: The second annual Paddle Bender paddle sport race, benifitting Carolina Wildlife Care, begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Park, 3677 State Park Road, Prosperity. Meet at the tournament boat ramp. (803) 364-4152

EDVENTURE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM: The Museum, 211 Gervais St., presents “Blooming Butterflies” from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Sunday. The 2,500-square-foot exhibit is filled with dozens of species of trees and plants and more than 20 species of butterflies native to the southeast. (803) 799-3100

MAXCY GREGG POOL: The pool has officially reopened. Recreational swim hours are Monday-Friday from 1-7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday from 2-6 p.m. Daily fees are $2 for ages 12 and younger, $3 for ages 13 and older. Seasonal passes for ages 12 and under are $80 and $120 for ages 13 and older. (803) 545-3100

RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN: Backyard Buds is open to children ages 3 and 4 Thursdays from 10-10:45 a.m. The program features a lesson, craft and story. Adult participation is required. The cost is $9 per child. (803)779-8717; riverbanks.org

SESQUICENTENNIAL STATE PARK: Take a casual stroll along Sesqui’s half-mile Jackson Creek Nature Trail. Meet at the park office and dress appropriately for being outdoors.
