S.C. National Guard soldiers returning from Kosovo

— National Guard soldiers from Gaffney and Union who have been stationed in Kosovo since last year will return home Tuesday.

About 150 soldiers in the Bravo Company of the First Battalion, 118th Combined Arms Battalion from Gaffney and 100 soldiers in the Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the First Battalion, 118th Combined Arms Battalion, and the Charlie and Delta Companies of the Battalion, will return from their nine-month deployment to Kosovo during homecoming ceremonies, according to a S.C. National Guard news release.

The 218th Military Enhancement Brigade was mobilized in May 2012 and, after training in Indiana,deployed to Kosovo in August 2012. During their deployment, the 218th MEB helped maintain a safe and secure environment for residents of Kosovo.

Soldiers of the 218th MEB earned numerous awards for their outstanding efforts during the deployment, including 93 Army achievement medals, 59 Army commendation medals, 18 Meritorious Service medals and various other awards for weapons proficiency and physical fitness, according to the release.
