A slow-moving thunder cell dumped some five inches of rain on North, but missed the Columbia area on Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service Columbia station reported Sunday.

Only about one-half inch of rain was recorded at Columbia Metropolitan Airport. A little more than  three-quarters of an inch was recorded at Hamilton-Owens Airport near Rosewood.

North is a rural Orangeburg County town of some 800 people about 30 miles directly south of Columbia.
