— The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department will take to the highways again this Saturday for the fifth annual motorcycle ride to benefit Honor Flight South Carolina.

The organization provides airline and ground transportation for World War II and Korean War military veterans to visit military memorials in Washington, D.C.

“Honor Flight South Carolina enables military veterans who are living on fixed incomes to visit memorials that our nation constructed in order to recognize the sacrifices that were made by men and women who served in our nation’s armed forces,” Sheriff James Metts said.

Saturday’s activities will include live music by Shodown and a live and silent auction, and participants will receive a barbecue dinner.

The ride will begin at noon Saturday at S&S Road Consultants, Inc., 930 Chapin Road, Chapin, and motorcyclists will ride in areas near Lake Murray, with stops at four businesses. The ride will conclude around 4 p.m.

Sgt. David Amick, supervisor of the Sheriff Department’s Chapin Patrol District and a former U.S. Navy veteran, will coordinate the ride.

“As a military veteran, David recognizes the importance of honoring persons who have defended America’s freedoms in military combat,” Metts said.

Registration for Saturday’s ride begins at 10 a.m. at S&S Road Consultants. The registration fee is $25 per motorcyclist and $15 for each passenger. All proceeds benefit Honor Flight South Carolina.
