Richland Library Local History manager Debbie Bloom has been honored by Columbia with the inaugural Mabel Payne award. The award, which is named for Columbia’s first historic preservationist, recognizes citizens who have contributed to preservation efforts within the city. As manager of the library’s Walker Local and Family History Center, Bloom has made historic resources available to the community as well as digitized documents for easier access. The S.C. Public Relations Society of America has honored Richland Library’s executive director Melanie Huggins with the 2012 Executive Excellence Award, which recognizes bosses who value, appreciate and support the public relations function within their organization. Huggins became executive director in 2009 and has developed the library’s enhanced customer experience practices and new branding initiatives.
