A Campobello woman has been charged in connection with a case involving a 2-year-old boy who died after a dresser fell on him.
Margaret Pauline Rose, 59, was charged with failing to report child abuse or neglect, according to a warrant from the Greenville County Sheriffs Office.
Chandler Jerome Shavers death occurred at 27 Laurinda Lane in Landrum at about 11:30 p.m. on March 12, Master Deputy Laura Campbell, a spokeswoman for the Greenville County Sheriffs Office, has said.
Two children were locked in a bedroom when a chest of drawers fell on them, Campbell said. The noise from the incident was loud enough to hear, but no action was taken to provide any intervention or medical care to save the life of the child, Campbell said.
Shavers mother, Margie Elizabeth Shaver, 27, of 27 Laurinda Lane, was charged with homicide by child neglect and unlawful neglect of a child. Christopher Jerome Shaver, 30, was charged with child neglect, according to warrants.
Greenville County investigators said they learned later that the child had been enrolled at Lee Road Child Enrichment Center and that Margaret Rose was the director of the center.
The warrant alleges that Rose, as director of the center at 1377 E. Lee Road in Taylors, failed to report issues concerning childrens welfare, while they attended the child care center.
The warrants also alleges that staffers notified Rose of the childrens cleanliness and issues involving cockroaches and reported bites.
Rose was released from the Greenville County Detention center on a $10,000 bond.
