Overnight fire destroys 9 units at Olympia-area complex

June 13, 2013

— Columbia firefighters are investigating the cause of a late-night fire that destroyed nine units and damaged 15 more at an Olympia apartment complex.

About 50 firefighters brought the fire at The Club at Carolina Stadium under control by 2 a.m. Thursday, about two hours after it broke out, assistant fire chief Jamie Helms said.

No one was injured. The Red Cross assisted residents affected.

All 24 units in a three-story building were damaged, with nine destroyed, Helms said. Damage is estimated at $325,000.

The apartments are on the Congaree River near the University of South Carolina’s baseball stadium.
