Fickes, Hirai close out victories

Beaufort’s Josh Fickes shot a final-round 2-over 74 at Country Club of Lexington on Thursday and saw his day two lead slip to one stroke on the way to winning the boys 15-17 division of the SCGA Junior Championship.

Fickes ended at 6-under 210, one shot ahead of Mount Pleasant’s Jamie Wilson and St. Matthews’ Justin Hood.

In the boys 13-14 division, Sumter’s Christian Salzer won by a four-stroke margin, shooting 75 for the second day in a row on the way to 2-over 218.

In the WSCGA Junior Girls Championship, held at the Oak Point Course at Kiawah Island, Summerville’s Reona Hirai cruised to a seven-stroke victory for her first title.

Kelli Murphy, a rising senior at Lugoff-Elgin, was third.
