— The autistic teen who went missing early Friday morning has been found drowned in a pool, according to Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews.

The search for 15-year-old Daven Williams started about 5:30 a.m. after officers responded to a burglary call in the area of the Pine Grove school near Elgin. Around that same time, Kershaw County Sheriff’s deputies also received a call from the school that Daven had gone missing.

The boy’s body was found at the bottom of a pool about a quarter-mile from the school about six hours later. A woman walking out of her house about 11:30 a.m. saw the body in the pool and called officers. When he was pulled from the pool, the teen was already dead, Matthews said.

Officers had searched the area around the pool earlier that morning, but didn’t find the boy, Matthews said.

Officers from the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department, Elgin Police Department, Camden Police Department and State Law Enforcement Division all participated in the search.

Pine Grove school is a residential facility and school for children and teens with autism and other developmental disabilities and disorders, according to its website.
